With Love and Honour, Liam Hemsworth and Teresa Palmer bring someAussie flavour to the quintessential American staple: a love story setin wartime.
The film tells the tale of Mickey (Hemsworth) and Dalton (AustinStowell), two soldiers who spend their week off from Vietnam flyingback to America, where Dalton plans to reunite with his best gal Jane(Aimee Teegarden). Mickey, ever the adventurer, tags along for the ridebefore getting bitten by the love bug himself in the form of Candace(Palmer).
If the plot sounds older than time itself, it's because it is, but thefilm remains at least a bearably enjoyable romp. In what proves to beboth a blessing and a curse, Love and Honour plays out like two filmsin one.
In the first half, the acting on display is above par, and while thescript fails to account for some plot holes, it manages to avoid anavalanche of clichés that films of this genre are typically so proneto.
Disappointingly, the second half labours, jumping right back onto thebeaten track en route to a bland and entirely expected conclusion. Adecent option as a mind-numbing stimulus, watching this ninety-threeminute film will feel like…well, about an hour-and-a-half.

Danny Mooney who is better known for acting (The Ides of March) thandirecting, has given us a well put together film with two well knownactors, Liam Hemsworth (The Hunger Games) and the beautiful TeresaPalmer (Warm Bodies), as the main leads. I just reviewed 'Ginger andRosa' which is similar to this in a lot of ways and I enjoyed bothfilms immensely. It's about two soldiers who are buddies, Mickey andPeter and while about to go on leave Peter get's a letter from hisgirlfriend, Juniper, who is played by the sexy Aimee Teegarden (Scream4) in which she is breaking up with him. Chris Lowell (The Help) playsPeter and together with Mickey they fly off home to try to win backJuniper's heart. Mickey meets Candace (Teresa Palmer) and falls headover heels in love with her and things get very interesting.
This is hardly an original story but it's back-story is cleverly weavedinto the film to help get the message of love and emotional maturitywithin relationships across. I think I saw a film that also had thefirst moon landing as a back-story but I can't remember it's name. Whenwe see the scenes that are set in Vietnam Danny Mooney used some veryclever techniques to give the illusion of jungle warfare without havingto throw money at it and it was effective.
On the surface this appears to be a simple love story but it's way morethan that and it's been told well. Rock solid acting, directing andproduction made this a pleasure to watch and while it's a bit cheesyit's very entertaining and has the bonus of Teresa Palmer for us guysand Liam Hemsworth for the ladies.

A poker of actors Jane / Aimee Teegarden , Candace / Teresa Palmer ,Mickey / Liam Hemsworth , and Dalton / Austin Stowell love and war arethe premises,let's talk about the movie.Dalton (Stowell) is breaking upwith Juniper/Jane (Teegarden) and he has a week and his Awol fellowMickey (Hemsworth) to win her back.I wouldn't want to go more in depthwith the story of the movie,since one of the many things I liked of itare the twists and turns like; "life is never just a straight line tofollow" thingy.It's good to see the different approach to the Nam warfocusing more on the inside conflicts betweenlove/duty,commitment/freedom.
Did i like the movie ? Definitely !
Would I advise you to watch it ? Sure !
Solid acting,subtly but charming approach to multiple states of mind ina tumultuous period,at the end of sixties,with a war and dreams inbetween.
Being usually very picky means when I like something you surely willtoo so act accordingly...
P.S.
I also recently saw Upside Down and if you are looking for a date movieor just a romantic mind's wandering,this is a great and betterchoice.Learn passing on today's visual gimmicks and overflowingmarketing nonsense.Little gems are out there to be found,and this isindeed one.
