This Asylum flick has all the clichés of a good old fashioned lowbudget TV movie: cowardly scientists that play god, greedy cornercutting businessman bully, innocent and completely stupid teenagergirl, action figure concerned father, brave American cops, Ronny Cox (acliché all of his own), rapacious dinosaurs and really dumb specialeffects.

Now, I didn't really expect anything else, but frankly I felt offendedby the messages in this film. You should never be arrogant, innovativeor bold. Stay in your place like so many female characters in the film.If you are a teenager you are dumb. Not just dumb, retarded (in thescientific sense, not the jargon one). If you are a woman, you arehelpless. No measure of protection will help you from what you fearwill happen. Glass will always break, even if it is cutting edge rocketone. You can do anything to protect your children, including killingpriceless dinosaurs and trying to run away from them by going insidethe city, so they can kill other people as well; corollary: being aconcerned parent trumps any other motivation. Always use extremeviolence when threatened: bring the cops and military if possible andshoot bullets into animals rather than call animal control specialistswith tranquillizers. Oh, and if you try to revive the dinosaurs, do iten masse, all species, as big as possible, before you announce it tothe world in a small building with no TV coverage and let them escape.

Bottom line: this film wasn't just bad, it was offensive and completelystupid. Treat Williams and Ronny Cox rarely play in masterpieces ofcinema, but this was just too much. Not even bad enough to be funny.

Age of Dinosaurs (2013) Review by Ed_Blackadder from Mrs Miggins' Pie Shoppe
Sometimes, I'll go to great lengths to get you the skinny on the latesthot movies, or in this case, not so hot. That even includes Asylumfilms which have a reputation for throwing smallish sums of money athorrendous scripts then stepping back to see what happens. Their lasttwo movies were extremely bad and of course, this is also bad but justnot 'as' bad. To helm this debacle they settled on Joseph J. Lawson whoI'm sure we all remember from his directorial debut Nazis at the Centerof the Earth. This unfortunate piece of nastiness isn't much better,however it did have a larger budget. The Director has an impressiveamount of film titles for Visual Effects which is a huge surprise afterseeing the poor effects that have gone into bringing the Dinosaurs tolife because every single one of them were very bad indeed. It lookedas if no one cared because realism wasn't the point, a fast buck wasand the entire project suffered because of it.

Spielberg would be spinning in is Director Chair if he saw thisshameful rip-off of Jurassic Park as scene after scene was a clear'Copy/Paste' effort without it ever coming close to working in any way.At times it felt like a parody of the $400 million grossing blockbusterit was trying to emulate but it was never going to work, but it wasclearly never Asylums intention.

To give some star power to Age of Dinosaurs they signed on TreatWilliams and TV Movie king Ronny Cox and both sailed through with easeand another stinker to add to the old resume but to add a femininetouch we had the talented Jillian Rose Reed who is still young enoughto actually consider even taking on these kind of roles without itkilling her career. The acting was pretty much solid with the onlyexceptions being a couple of bit players but it's to be expected in alow budget movie. The rest of the film was just plain bad, with CGI andEditing being the worst offenders but Continuity was an extremely closesecond. The Dino's were garbage to look at, the movement was laughableand had the look of a high school project, I mean, it's been twentyyears since Jurassic Park but this looked like effects from 'thirty'years ago.

If you've seen Jurassic Park then you don't really need to watch awatered down parody of it, but if you still decide to see it, thenyou'll no doubt have a laugh at the silliness of it all. The biggestfans of Asylum movies are the people who have tiny parts in them andtheir family members but I also think there might be a small subculturewho enjoy 'B' movies of this sort and if so, enjoy. Sadly, I'm not afan of Asylum and found it tedious sitting through the film in it'sentirety but occasionally, we have to take one for the team, but fearnot readers, the wound should be healed in time for the next review sountil then, keep an eye out for the anything by Asylum.
